As cliché as it may sound, this is a modern day version of “David vs. Goliath” in more ways than one. Who would’ve anticipated a 17 year old boy, who turned pro less than 12 months prior, would break Usain Bolt’s U18 200M record (with a time of 20.04), follow that up by breaking Bolt’s U20 200M record (with a time of 19.88), and book his ticket to the 2021 Olympics with a New U20 200M World Record of 19.84. Simultaneously, he’d become the youngest athlete to make the USA Track & Field team since 1964. Sounds believable?
His coach/mentor is Jonathan Terry – Co-founder of The Speed Capital Commission and Head Coach of MBSK Track Club. Jonathan’s coaching experience is comprised primarily of youth and high school experience, albeit a very successful career with over 100 national championships in 8 seasons, he has yet to coach at the collegiate or professional ranks. Who would’ve anticipated he would develop the fastest recorded teenager in human history?
These two define everything we represent at Speed Capital; their passion for the sport, their hard work/determination, and above all else – their execution of the strategy. We could not be more proud of our Official Speed Capital Ambassador (Erriyon Knighton) and our Co-Founder (Jonathan Terry) for overcoming the odds stacked against them to create track & field history. Win, lose, or draw…it matters not; there’s a nation of supporters behind them drawing inspiration from their journey.
As they embark on their quest to the podium at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, we’ll be screaming from the mountain tops in support of them. There are few things more terrifying than a bad dream and it’s time to show the competition that this is the KNIGHTMARE ERA! Good luck and God speed.
